Overcoming [Hindrances] To Spiritual Progress
Hindrance=the act of making it difficult for someone to act or for something to be done
1) Hindrance of worldly entanglements
Genesis 19:16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him; and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
the angels trying to get Lot and his family out of the city and into safety, but [procastination] was a hindrance
2) Hindrance of family cares
Luke 9:61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, no man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
having been called of the Lord, and wanting to go back is a [hindrance] in that family may not agree with your new faith, or your devotion to GOD
3) Hindrance of unbelief
Acts 17:32 And when they heard of the resurection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, we will [hear] thee again of this matter.
[hear=to be noised-to be reported-to understand]
they heard of the resurection not believing, but they were open to a deeper understanding
4) Hindrance of personal convenience
Acts 24:25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgement to come, Felix trembled, and answered, go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
again [procastination] comes into the decision, over thinking, and over analizing, instead of by faith, maybe thinking your unfit?, unworthy?, if we wait for everything to be right, that convenient season never comes.
5) Hindrance of the pressures of business
Luke 14:16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
Luke 14:17 And sent his servant aat supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
Luke 14:18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
Luke 14:19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
Back when I was trucking, I understand the excuse [which is nothing more than that], the time restraints that are put upon us, and the stress level-but there comes a time, no matter what the time restraints or stress level may be, we have to step aside, and spend some time with GOD and yield to HIS leading, to grow in the spirit we need time with GOD!
So how can we grow in our spiritual walk with the LORD?
6) The power of Prayer
Our spiritual growth is dependent on faith [faith is having belief-or-trust]
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall recieve.
for prayer to be most effective, it should be accompanied by praise
Acts 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
for our continual growth we pray often
Psalm 55:17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and He shall hear my voice.
Daniel prayed three times a day, regardless of the circumstances
Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerulsalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
2Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
If we are going to advance or grow spiritually, we need to spend time in the word of GOD!
8) Rooted and built-up
Colossians 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
another way growth comes is not only by studying, but also being taught, by our Pastor, Sunday school teachers, and home Bible studies
9) Fellowship [is a friendly relationship among people: the relationship of people who share interests or feelings: a group of people who have similar interest]
Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
we have fellowship with like believers, and also with God
1John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
10) To truly be rooted and built up in Him, and to have fellowship with one another, we need to gather in GOD’s house [Church]
Hebrews 10:23 Let hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
There are hindrances in our life BUT we can grow spiritually!
To truly have spiritual growth, we need to pray, we need to study, and we need the fellowship of one another, and to do that, we need to be in Church
