Prayer Obedience and Trust
The strength to hold steadfastly to the traditions of the gospel is accomplished through the Word, Prayer, Obedience, and genuine Trust in Christ Jesus.
In order to hold steadfastly to the gospel, and to be strengthened in the Lord, we begin in prayer for Godly wisdom.
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Next we are to be obedient to the teaching and the leading of and the call of Jesus Christ.
Mat 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Mat 9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
Mat 21:6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
Luk 6:47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
And finally we are to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to strengthen us in the gospel.
Psa 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Isa 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
Isa 50:10 Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
In conclusion, why do we need to be strengthened in the gospel?
If we are new believers in Jesus Christ, and if we are not yet rooted and grounded in the gospel, it could be easy to be deceived into thinking that the gift of Salvation is not real.
