Delight In God’s Word
The person who delights in God’s Word shall be blessed with stability, prosperity, and fruitfulness.
Websters defines delight as:
a) a high degree of gratification : also : extreme satisfaction
b) something that gives great pleasure
1) Delight in God’s Word!
Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
The word law here is the Word of God, and to meditate is to study, so we are taking joy in the studying of God’s Word, day and night.
Psa 119:16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
Here this verse is saying to me to delight, or to take joy in the study of God’s statutes[the manner or way in which God wants us to live]
Psa 119:174 I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.
Here I’m told of the desire to be saved, and then to take delight in the living according to God’s Word!
Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
Here it is the soul, or the spiritual man that is taking delight in the Word of God!
2) Having taken delight in the Word of God, we receive the blessings that GOD has for us!
a) We are blessed with Stability!
Websters defines stability as:
1) the quality or state of someone who is emotionally or mentally healthy
2) the strength to stand or endure
Knowing this we are assured in the word of God, we have the blessing of stability!
1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Some examples of having this stability
Peter and John!
Act 4:19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
Act 4:20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
Paul, in finishing his course!
Act 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
b) We are blessed with prosperity!
Websters defines prosperity as:
the condition of being successful or thriving
There are different types of prosperity, there is prosperity of the righteous [or Godly], and there is worldly prosperity, which is most usually concidered as wealth or rich’s.
Knowing the different types of prosperity we’re studying, lets first look at prosperity of the righteous or Godly prosperity.
Deu 29:9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
2Ch 31:21 And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.
Psa 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
So in living righteously or Godly, we are blessed with prosperity, sometimes it may be in rich’s or wealth, which will allow us to reach out to the less fortunate, and most important is being blessed spiritually, where we’re able to minister to those that need the Lord and that eternal blessing.
Then there is the worldly prosperity, and the Word of God gives us some warnings of that type of prosperity.
Deu 32:15 But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
Eze 16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
Eze 16:50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
There are consequences of having and living in worldly prosperity, but God has given us a way out of that type of prosperity, and hope of righteous and Godly prosperity.
First let look at the warnings of worldly prosperity!
Mat 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Luk 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
Now looking at the hope of righteous and Godly prosperity!
Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Tit 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Tit 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
c) And we are blessed with fruitfulness!
Again looking into Websters we find the definition for fruitfulness as:
1) producing a good result : very productive
2) abundantly productive
As there was two forms of prosperity, the worldly and the spiritual, there is also that with Fruitfulness.
First once again we will look at the worldly form of fruitfulness.
Mat 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Heb 6:8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
As we learn here in these verses of scripture, worldliness only produces spiritual unfruitfulness!
Now looking at spiritual fruitfulness:
There are many varieties of fruitfulness!
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Spiritual fruitfulness is without defect!
Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Spiritual fruitfulness is the product of heavenly wisdom!
Jas 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
Spiritual fruitfulness is produced in all periods of life!
Psa 92:13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.
Psa 92:14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
There are conditions to spiritual fruitfulness:
First, there is the death of the old life!
Joh 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Second, there is chastening, or pruning!
Joh 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Third, there is abiding in Christ!
Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
Heb 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
Fourth, we are instructed to:
Mat 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
So in conclusion, we see as we delight and meditate on the Word of God daily, we are abundantly blessed with STABILITY, PROSPERITY, AND FRUITFULNESS!
Have a Blessed day in JESUS!
